The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) is a university with centuries of history in teaching with a focus on the practical applications of acquired theory. Located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, we share the international Dutch reputation for excellent education.
We are proud to present the AUAS Summer School, a sun-kissed selection of our finest teachings offered to you in July. Prepare yourself for a first rate educational experience.
The AUAS' faculties of Applied Social Sciences and Law, Business and Economics, and Sports and Nutrition have ten fascinating academic courses to offer this July (check the summer courses for exact dates). Join a group of 20 to 30 eager students for one or two weeks of intensive classes. With all lectures and workgroups taking place at the Amstelcampus, our teaching facilities at Amsterdam city centre, you are bound to have memorable discussions with your peers from all over the globe - perhaps making friends for life.
Central to the mission of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) is the delivery of hands-on knowledge rather than endless, abstract theory. Whether you're still studying elsewhere but you'd like to broaden your horizon with ingredients outside your regular curriculum, or you're a working professional eager to improve your skill set: the AUAS Summer School promises real, effective additions to your mind.
To spend a summer living and studying in Amsterdam is to experience one of the most exciting cities in the world - and a global business hub with a history that dates back centuries. Hardly a city in the world features a more culturally diverse population. Ever wondered why so many 'Amsterdammers' speak English? Now you know.
The AUAS Summer School is a challenge for sure, with Monday to Friday of eye-opening classes. But there is plenty of time and space for a fulfilling social programme and memorable excursions. Our city is beautiful in summer - visit one of the many museums or parks, relax at a restaurant or a bar on a bustling street, where the setting sun on the world-famous canals forms an excellent backdrop to discuss your newfound insights.

Live like the locals: arrange student housing in Amsterdam. Have your own studio, or share a flat with others. Enjoy cooking with other international students or eating out in the many nice restaurants or cafés. Amsterdam is easy to traverse on bicycle; you'll know your way around in no time.
If you want the full experience for your summer, choose a student housing arrangement. This information covers two options:
The AUAS Summer School starts on Monday 3 July 2017. When using the AUAS Summer School housing arrangement, the arrival date is Friday 30 June 2017. The departure date is Friday 7 July when attending a one-week course*, or Friday 14 July when attending a two-week course.
* If you take part in the one week course you are allowed to stay in your room for the full two weeks.
The AUAS Summer School has studios and rooms on offer for international students at different locations in Amsterdam. Please note, you will be always accommodated with a number of other Summer school students. The housing of students of each course depends on the number of participants. We will not be able to let you know which residence you will be staying in until the day of your arrival.
Two types of rooms are offered:
* Prices apply for both one-week and two-week stay.
Note that the student arrangements described here emphasize independent living and are therefore not hotel-standard: please do not expect hotel services such as reception, daily cleaning, indoor dining arrangements and the like. Rooms will of course be cleaned before arrival, though, and bedding and cleaning supplies are available in the room.
The number of studios and rooms is limited, so please make sure to apply as soon as possible to save your spot!
Residence assistants of the AUAS Summer School Support Team will be at the accommodations on Friday 30 June to welcome you, and to hand you your key. If you are planning to arrive after 23.00 hours, you are advised to book a hotel for that night. The residence assistants will not be available at that time.
Housing is provided from Friday 30 June 14.00 hours, until 10.00 hours on the last Friday of the course. Unfortunately it is not possible to prolong your stay in the accommodation. If you want to stay in Amsterdam longer, you will have to make other arrangements.
All AUAS housing locations have good access to the Amsterdam public tranportation system (GVB). The cheapest way to get around is to buy a multi-day travel ticket for your stay in Amsterdam (€ 34 for 7 days). GVB's day or multi-day travel ticket provides you with unlimited travel through Amsterdam - day or night - by bus, tram, and metro. It becomes valid when you first check in. More information can be found on the GVB-website.
If you do not wish to make use of the housing arranged by the AUAS Summer School, you are welcome to arrange your own accommodation. There are many ways to do so. Either through airBnB, through friends, in youth hostels or hotels, or through international student boards. Please be aware that the summer is a busy time in Amsterdam, so make sure you book well in advance.

Some students may need a visa to enter the Netherlands for the AUAS Summer School. Here you can read which countries need a visa to enter; you can also read how to get one.
The Netherlands is a member of the Schengen Agreement. Depending on your nationality and the length of your stay you may need a visa to enter the Schengen agreement area, which includes the Netherlands. Please see the website of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more information.

Applying for a visa is your own responsibility. AUAS Summer School does not offer any further assistance beyond what is described here.
A Letter of Acceptance may help you apply for your visa because it proves that we are indeed expecting your arrival. Once you have paid the tuition fee we can send you a Letter of Acceptance by (regular) mail and by email at the same time. We will only send Letters of Acceptance to those students coming in from countries where visa are necessary. Check whether your nationality requires a visa here. You may request a Letter of Acceptance by sending an email to email@example.com.
The AUAS Summer School does not send Letters of Invitation to participants. However, a Letter of Acceptance can be requested after we have received your payment and it will serve the same purpose.
