In this section you can find frequently asked questions regarding the immigration procedure for international students. The questions are categorized under three specific groups of international students; incoming students, current AUAS students and for students that (almost) finished their study/exchange at AUAS. Usually your residence permit is valid till the end of your study period, plus an additional three months. The IND grants every student these three months to finish their stay in the Netherlands. After you finish or quit your studies, we will notify the IND. Even if your residence permit has a longer validation this does not automatically mean it remains valid until the end date.

It is also possible to get an orientation year for graduates in the Netherlands (zoekjaar), more information on this can be found below.
This orientation year enables students that just finished their studies to seek employment in the Netherlands, for example as a highly skilled migrant. You then apply for a residence permit to seek and perform work in employment or otherwise. Certain conditions and rules apply to be eligible for this orientation year. You are obliged to return your residence permit card to the IND. You can hand it in at the IND office or send the card by mail to: Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst, IND loket Amsterdam, Stadhouderskade 85, 1073 AT Amsterdam.
