Fashion & Management

In the programme specialisation Fashion & Management you learn about the clothing and fashion industry in detail, and you learn how to put your managerial qualities and insights to best use in buying, producing and marketing clothes. You will also be expected to have a significant understanding about the evolving roles of sustainability in the fashion industry.

The professional products you develop include a fabric portfolio, a quality manual, a production guide and a collection and buying plan. Important subjects for Fashion & Management include fabric expertise, collections, production theory, ICT, logistics, international business, marketing, retail, HRM, management skills and business economics.

Study curriculum

After the first semester, which is followed by all foundation students together, the second semester is more focused on the graduation specialisation Fashion & Management. You begin by analysing an existing brand, researching developments in the fashion market and eventually develop a complete concept for a new collection. You draw up a clothing analysis, formulate design specifications, and make an article of clothing together with its technical style sheet and production file. The programme includes development of the many competences expected of a fashion manager.


In the second year, you first research the denim industry and its most popular product: jeans. You assume the role of a Product Manager and take a concept and develop it into a new design for jeans. Furthermore, you create a business plan for a retail environment that will host this new concept. The second semester assumes a more strategic focus and assumes a more international character. You consider global trends and how these present opportunities and threats to conducting business.  You will be exposed to purchasing, production, logistics, marketing and sales as you conduct this analysis and will learn how to make strategic choices in implementing a business plan. 

The third and fourth year your focus will be on your individual strengths and on improving your skills. You search for and select an internship, choose a course specialisation and a follow a minor programme. The choices you make during the third and fourth year will depend on what kind of role you envision for yourself after graduation: these could include becoming a Buyer/Product Manager, a Retail Manager or a Production Coordinator.

The last semester of the programme you start and complete your personal graduation project. For Fashion & Management, this means choosing a research subject about which you are passionate and that is relevant to the fashion world, formulating a useful research question, and writing a thesis. You may also carry out a specific assignment at a company in order to write this thesis.
