Start study programme

This page provides all the information you will need at the start of the academic year.

Your AUAS ID and password grant you access to AUAS ICT facilities. Your AUAS ID is stated in the welcome letter you were sent by email after you enrolled. To activate your AUAS ID, go to Simply click on the 'Activate account' link and follow the instructions. Have you done that? Log in to your AUAS mailbox. Be sure to regularly check this inbox to ensure you don't miss any important information. Log in at using your AUAS (note the extension and password.

Have you paid your tuition fees yet and made all further steps required to finalise your enrolment? You cannot start your degree programme this September unless you have completed all the required steps. Once you have received your proof of enrolment (by email to your AUAS email address) you can be sure that your enrolment has been finalised.

Every student is issued with a student ID card. This will allow you to print, borrow books, pay at vending machines, identify yourself for tests, etc. To apply for your student ID card, simply upload your passport photo via This will require you to enter your AUAS ID, sent to you by email. You will receive your student ID card at the end of August.

N.B. If you are an international student, your student ID card will not be sent to your home address. It will be ready for you to collect from the Service Point.

If your student ID card is sent to your home address, you will need to activate it (once only) at one of the Service Points in the AUAS buildings. To activate your student ID card you must be able to present a valid proof of identity. Once you have activated your student ID card you can use it to print, borrow books, pay at vending machines, identify yourself for tests, etc.

The obligated introduction days from AMFI will take place on 28, 29 and 30 August.

Kersvers (AUAS centralised introduction)

After your degree programme introduction we look forward to welcoming you to the AUAS centralised introduction: Kersvers HvA.

  • On Thursday, 31 August you will have an opportunity to get to know both the city and the AUAS. In the morning you will get a taste of Amsterdam during various activities at different locations across the city. Then, on the AUAS Amstel campus from 13:00 to 20:00, the Kersvers festival will give you a flavour of student life with a host of informative, musical and culinary activities!
  • AUAS Kersvers continues in the afternoon of Friday, 1 September with a range of sports, cultural and creative activities. The big AUAS closing party, starting from 22:00 ends the week.

ISN Amsterdam Summer Introduction Week

International Student Network (ISN) Amsterdam is a student-run organization dedicated to helping international students studying at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) and Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) make the most of their stay in the Netherlands. The academic year commences on Monday, 28 August, starting with an introduction week. Your first lectures will follow. You will receive information regarding your group division at the introduction. Once you have your group list, you will be able to view your schedule at You can link your schedule to calendar applications such as Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or the calendar application in your mobile phone. Go to the AUAS annual schedule to find out how the academic year is structured and when the holiday periods are scheduled.

AMFI has its own annual schedule (log in on MijnHvA). Please check this schedule regularly to see how the semester is established. Information about reflection and evaluation weeks as well the national holidays will be posted here.

Every day's study begins with MijnHvA. Here you can log in with your AUAS ID and find your schedule, all you need to know about your courses, your grades and any messages from your lecturers. If a lecturer will be absent, you will be notified via MijnHvA. You will also find an A-Z list of practical information for your programme including such things as ICT, facilities, regulations and supervision. 

All AUAS students can obtain fast and secure access to the internet via the ‘hva’ or ‘eduroam’ network which, in turn, allows access to all information systems. To obtain access to the network you will be required to complete a number of steps once only. Once you have done that you will always connect automatically at all AUAS locations.

Excursions are part of the course and mandatory.
Consider an amount between € 300 and € 500 a year.
