The foundation year of the programme familiarises you with all aspects of the fashion world. The first semester is the same for all specialisations. You learn to develop your own vision on the fashion world and you take workshops in which you create three professional products: a style study, an inspiration book and a prototype. You learn the techniques in tool shops. You also attend lectures and see videos that introduce the historical, cultural and economic backgrounds of fashion. In the second half of the foundation year you shift focus to your chosen specialisation.
In Fashion & Design you take a historical approach to the design of clothing and make designs that explore different materials and their technical treatment. You also compile a concept book and a design book.
In Fashion & Management you conduct a clothing analysis, define your conceptual principles and create a garment with an accompanying working drawing and production manual.
In Fashion & Branding you learn about aspects such as basic garment analysis, spotting trends and presenting a new fashion concept in 3D.
During the foundation year you have to obtain at least 50 credits (out of 60 credits total) in order to continue to the second year. Read more about this under Binding Study Advice.
