Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

Enrolment and selection

European School of Physiotherapy

As there are more prospective students than study places, ESP has a limited number of study places (120). Therefore, the programme has a selection procedure.

You can no longer enrol for the 2019-2020 academic year. The enrolment period closed on 15 January.

STEP 1: Check here to see if you meet the requirements to enrol in the European School of Physiotherapy.

STEP 2: Apply through Studielink, by completing the online application form.

STEP 3: Download the ESP Application Form to your computer. Complete the form in Adobe Reader, save, and submit via email to esp@hva.nl

The deadline for enrolment is January 15, 2019. Make sure you have completed all steps and uploaded all your documents before this date. After January 15, 2019 it’s no longer possible to apply for the programme.

If you have completed your application on time and you have submitted your documents, you will receive the invite for the selection day.

All applications that meet the official requirements will be invited to the selection day. The selection for the academic year 2019-2020 will take place on the following date:

  • March 16, 2019

Make sure to mark this date on your calendar.

You will receive the invite for the selection day and the exact planning of the day on February 15, 2019 by email. Please note that all applicants will be invited to come to Amsterdam, in person on the selection day as we value personal (face-to-face) contact. For non-EU students we offer a Skype interview as an alternative. Please include a Skype request in your application form email in a timely manner so we can plan ahead. We have reserved 60 Skype interview slots as special service.

The selection day consists of:

  1. Two interviews with ESP lecturers - in these interviews you will get questions on the view of the profession, motivation and study skills and attitude.
  2. Written exam - in this exam you will receive a text in the field of anatomy, biomechanics and/or physiology. The exam consists of multiple choice questions that aim to check your understanding after having read these texts. Prior knowledge in these fields can help, but is not needed in order to perform well in this exam.

You will also have the opportunity to meet your prospective fellow students and lecturers.

Once the full application package has been received the invite will be emailed to all applications, including instructions for preparation of the selection day.

Did you participate in the selection? On 15 April 2019, you will receive your selection results directly from the AUAS and your ranking number through Studielink.

The ranking number is based on your results in the selection. If your ranking number falls within the maximum number of places, you will also receive a placement certificate through Studielink on 15 April. You must accept your placement certificate through Studielink within two weeks.

If your ranking number is higher than 120, there is a possibility of obtaining a placement certificate only if places become available after 30 April (because selected candidates did not accept their placement certificate). The AUAS will issue placement certificates through Studielink until 15 August 2019 at the latest.

Please note that mails from the AUAS could end up in your spam box. Make sure to check your spam box regularly.

ESP has capacity for 120 students in the 2019-2020 academic year. All candidates that took part in the selection procedure were assigned a ranking number  on 15 April. Candidates with number 1 to 120 inclusive were immediately offered a place, which they will have to accept within two weeks.

If you have been allocated a number higher than 120, you obviously want to find out if there's a chance that you will be offered a place, and if so, when. If your number is slightly higher than 120, this could happen relatively soon after 15 April. If you have been allocated a higher number, you will have to wait a little longer.

The average mark you receive for the tests decides your place in the ranking. Your chance of placement will depend on the number of available places and the number of students who participated in the selection procedure.

Based on the scores of the interviews and the written exam we will create a ranking and select the top 120 students.
