COVID-19 Update #2 – Classes online or in the Netherlands?

19 Jun 2020 09:00 | Amsterdam School of International Business

In the first semester of 2020-2021 AMSIB will deliver the education 100% online. What should international students know before starting studies online, from home or in the Netherlands?

In case you hadn’t already heard, AMSIB has decided to go 100% online in the fall semester for all students. This means, that despite where you are in the world, you can start the first semester online. Should you choose to stay in your home country, or travel to the Netherlands, you will need to finalise your enrolment before you start the programme, and follow the travel advice determined by your own country and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travelling here. Below we have put together some questions and answers to help guide you.

Will all classes be delivered 100% online in Fall 2020?

Do I need to physically be in the Netherlands to start my programme in Fall 2020?

Will classes be delivered physically again in Spring 2021?

This is the intention; however, we have no way of knowing at this point where the Covid-19 crisis will take us. As we approach the second semester, this will be communicated further.

Can I start the programme online from my home country in Fall 2020?

Once you have finalised your enrolment you can start the programme online.

When can I travel to the Netherlands for my studies?

Only when you have met the below criteria may you travel to the Netherlands for your study:

  • You have finalised your enrolment.
  • You have the appropriate (entry)visa/permit to travel and study.
  • There are no travel restrictions between your country of residence and the Netherlands.
  • Your country of residence does not have negative travel advice from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Please visit the site the Netherlands Worldwide.

I meet the above requirements and can travel to the Netherlands. Is there housing available?

The AUAS has housing available. This week you received a housing offer by email. By following the instructions in the email, you can apply for AUAS housing. For more information on housing, please visit www.amsterdamuas.com/housing.

I plan to start my first semester online from my home country (outside the EU). Do I still need to apply for a study visa?

Yes. The regular enrolment procedure applies for everyone. For non-EU/EEA nationalities, this includes the regular immigration process.

The Dutch embassy is not open and I cannot pick up my Provisional Residence Permit (MVV). Will it expire?

The Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Department (IND) does not know when embassies will open; therefore, the Provisional Residence Permit (MVV) will be extended from three to six months. This is subject to change.

I am still abroad and cannot pick up my residence permit from the IND in the Netherlands.

The Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Department (IND) has extended the time to pick this up.
