In 2010, Maikel graduated from the Honours Aviation Management Track. After that, Maikel obtained his MSc in Air Transport Management at the Cranfield University. He also worked as a lecturer at the Aviation Academy and Safety Engineer at Transavia. Currently, he is the Director Flight Operations Support & Innovation at Transavia. He will tell us something about his experiences after graduation and his outlook on the future.

Every year I arrange a two-week project for the honours students, during the year I have several interns from the Aviation Academy, Once or twice every year I give a guest lecture and I am still external examiner for graduation projects.

How did you get your current job?

I started with Transavia as safety engineer, after several years I wanted to have a strategic position within Transavia to help the airline even further. My current position became available, I applied and after three interviews and an assessment the promotion was given.

What are your daily operations?

On a day-to-day basis I guide my team together with my senior FOS officer, this teams is the primary and first point of contact for our flight crew. Besides that, I am responsible for our innovation and sustainability files & projects within Flight Operations.

What do you like the most at your job?

Supporting and facilitating my team to achieve a better result every day and the immense complexity of sustainability within our airline and how to achieve being sustainable at the highest level possible as an airline.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I have an ambition to be able to facilitate and run a complete department within Transavia and therefor have a direct responsibility for the track and development of the company.

What did you like the most from your education that helps you out nowadays in your work?

Working and managing within projects. The projects had two sides which really help me during my job. The first is managing the people around you and the second one is managing the goals of the project.

Are you still connected with the Aviation Academy?
