Jordy Maurits - Graduated in 2017 from the Aviation Engineering MRO track

If this isn’t your first job since graduating: what were your other jobs at which companies?

After graduation I started working as a Maintenance Consultant for a company called MaxGrip. Helped asset intensive companies in implementing maintenance management. I have worked for companies in the Chemicals industry, Oil and Gas and Infra and Utilities.

How did you get your current job?

At the time I wanted to join a start-up company and started looking at different options. I found Semiotic Labs and I joined there as an Asset Reliability Specialist as employee number 26. Currently Semiotic Labs has rebranded to Samotics and we are nearing 125 Employees and I have had to grow into a Lead position where I am managing my own team!

What are your daily operations?

So the product of Samotics, SAM4, is built to monitor electric motors and their rotating equipment. Using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning we have been able to save our customers close to 4 Million euros in their maintenance. Most of the AI is run overnight so that means that in the mornings I am busy on checking the AI and diagnosing potential failures at the customers I am servicing. After having the lunch served in the office I am usually having customer facing meetings or working on projects related to product development.

What do you like the most at your job?

I like most that the job can be very chaotic and requires a lot of change and adaptation. 1 week there will be a limited amount of diagnosed failures to follow up and thus I can spend a lot of time on working on projects, while the next week I could be working non stop on failures with customers.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Currently my plan is to stick with Samotics and continue to grow with the company. Expectation is that we are going to continue to grow like we have done over the last couple of years, meaning a lot of opportunities of growth.

What do you like the most from your education that helps you out currently in your work?

What I still use from the education is the fact that within projects you have different roles and responsibilities and within those roles and responsibilities you should allow for learning opportunities and growth. This becomes even more important when you start to manage people as each of them requires different levels of attention and need to explore their own growth path.

Are you still connected with the Aviation Academy?

Not as active as I can be
