AUAS launches first Master’s degree programme in Digital Design

In September 2017, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) will start the first Master’s degree programme in Digital Design in the Netherlands. This international programme offers ambitious digital designers worldwide the opportunity to develop immediately-applicable and ‘future-proof’ skills within their field of expertise and outside. The one-year programme is recently accredited by the NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders) after a long period of preparations. The programme involves a partnership between the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries (FDMCI) and nine leading design firms.

Creative professionals

The creative sector plays an important economic role in The Netherlands. Within this sector digital design is an important driving force for innovation and product development. As a result, the digital industry has grown rapidly. To meet the growing demand for well-educated digital designers, the AUAS starts the new Master’s degree programme in Digital Design. The programme focuses on educating creative professionals who are able to look beyond the boundaries of their own discipline: visionary creatives with excellent technical skills and a fascination with digital craftsmanship. Competent and proficient designers at Master’s level, who are capable of providing valid and adequate responses to the grand challenges of today.

Close collaboration

This Master of Science in Digital Design focuses on these grand challenges for which innovative digital solutions are needed. Graduate students articulate proficiently how design responses relate to relevant economic, social, and technological trends and developments and apply excellent design and creative skills in disciplines outside their core discipline. The Master’s programme collaborates intensively with the nine leading design firms: Achtung!, DDB & Tribal Amsterdam, FHV BBDO, Fabrique, MediaMonks, Mirabeau, Momkai, Tam Tam and Woedend!. These firms will remain actively involved in the formation of the curriculum.

Master of Science

The programme, which commences in September, is open to a maximum of 24 students from around the world. Candidates must have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree. Additional expectations include an individual vision for digital design, a portfolio presenting relevant design works, and a strong international orientation. The official language of the programme is English. This is a one-year programme which culminates in a Master of Science degree.
