Huib de Jong, Chairman of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences’ Executive Board, has announced that he will leave the AUAS on 1 July 2020. He plans to retire. The Supervisory Board will now start the succession process.

Huib de Jong was appointed Rector of the AUAS on 1 March 2013, serving as a member of the joint UvA-AUAS Executive Board. Following the administrative demerger of the UvA-AUAS in 2017, Huib de Jong became Chairman of the AUAS Executive Board. Hanneke Reuling joined the Executive Board on 1 October 2017, as Vice Chair, responsible for operational management. Geleyn Meijer completed the new Executive Board when he was appointed Rector, on 1 July 2018.

AUAS is on the right track

After leading the AUAS for the past seven years, Huib de Jong thinks it's time to pass the baton this summer. “The AUAS is on the right track. Our quality is in good shape and, before the summer, we will formulate our ambitions for our wonderful institution in the years ahead. After the summer, the AUAS will embark on a new phase. This is the right moment for me to step down, knowing in full confidence that the future of our institution is in good hands with my colleagues and my successor.”

However, we’re not there yet, says our Chairman. “There is still important work to do in the next few months. We are going to formulate our ambitions at the AUAS and also discuss what steps we want to take together. This will all be documented in our new Institutional Plan. I will continue to lead this important process with wholehearted enthusiasm and focus until 1 July. The AUAS is very close to my heart. I will be able to depart in good spirits once I know that we have set out a good and clear path for the future.”

Huib de Jong has already informed the Supervisory Board of his intention to leave the AUAS effective 1 July. The Supervisory Board will now start preparations for the process of appointing his successor.
