In 2019, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) awarded degrees to 6,884 students. Some 13,766 new students began their studies at the AUAS and a total of € 12 million in grant funding was obtained to support applied research activities led by our 60 professors. You can read about these facts, and much more, in the 2019 AUAS annual report, which was published this week.

The year 2019 marked a number of firsts at AUAS: a special introduction programme for so-called ‘first generation students’. Young trainees with multicultural backgrounds were appointed to help support new students and reduce dropout rates. And the AUAS was the only university of applied sciences to partner in a prestigious project to accelerate the shift to sustainable energy.

The AUAS is well on track as it nears the end of its current strategic course, which is set out in detail in our Strategic Plan ‘Boundless Curiosity’ (2015-2020, report is in Dutch). The quality of our education remained stable, confirmed by the positive results AUAS obtained during the Institutional Audit conducted in 2019. Quality is measured at AUAS according to three factors: study success rates - based on the number of students that obtain their diploma within five years (63%) – as well as student satisfaction (72%) and the position of alumni in the labour market. Some 92% of AUAS graduates secured paid employment within three months of graduation.

The AUAS is in good financial health and is currently expanding its Amstel Campus. Construction of the newest addition, the Conrad building, began in 2019.
