AUAS campuses smoke-free from 1 August

All educational institutions in the Netherlands are obliged to be smoke-free starting on 1 August. This also includes the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). The new smoking policy applies to everyone who uses the buildings and grounds at the AUAS, from students to employees, suppliers and visitors.

The AUAS wants to offer students and staff a smoke-free and healthy environment for studying and working. The new smoking ban can help encourage people to quit the habit and to discourage young people from starting.

In the coming period ashtrays will be removed and signs will be put up stating that the AUAS grounds are smoke-free. The patio at Cafe Fest also falls under this new policy. The AUAS calls on smokers to please take their surroundings into account and to be aware of the possible nuisance smoking can cause in the neighborhood.
