The Executive Board has appointed Nynke van Dijk as Dean of the faculties of Sports and Nutrition (FBSV) and Health (FG). Van Dijk will start at the AUAS on 1 September 2020. Until then, Irene Sparreboom will be the acting dean.

With her background as a physician-epidemiologist and educationalist, Van Dijk (1977) brings together both medical-scientific and educational professionals. She has been Professor of Medical Education and Training at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) since 2015. She is also a member of the Management Team of the GP training programme and the Department of General Practice of the Amsterdam UMC, AMC location. In this position, and also in previous positions, Van Dijk has gained extensive experience in the development and implementation of educational innovation and the administrative responsibilities that come with this.

In addition to all the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis, the task facing Van Dijk at the AUAS involves translating relevant developments in higher education and the Amsterdam metropolitan area to the two faculties and the university of applied sciences as well as managing and connecting two independent faculties.

Huib de Jong, Chairman of the Executive Board, is enthusiastic about Van Dijk's appointment. "Nynke has the type of personality that brings people together and she is strongly driven by a substantive interest in the disciplines covered by the faculties. Thanks to her extensive experience in educational development at all levels of higher education, she can generate enthusiasm in the degree programmes where necessary, enabling them to take the next step in their development, particularly when it comes to the integration of education and applied research. Given her impressive track record, expertise in both healthcare and education, and her passion for training professionals, I am convinced that she is the right woman in the right place."
