All educational institutions in the Netherlands are obliged to have smoke-free areas from 1 August. The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences will comply with this requirement. The new smoking policy applies to everyone who uses the buildings and grounds of the AUAS. From students and staff to suppliers and visitors.

The AUAS wants to offer students and staff a smoke-free and healthy learning and working environment. The new smoking policy can help people quit and can ensure that young people do not start smoking.

Ashtrays and ashtray tiles have been removed in all areas. Additionally, signs and posters stating that it is a smoke-free area have been placed. The AUAS also asks smokers in the vicinity of the campus to take this new rule into account and not to disturb local residents.
