Flags at half-mast for educational freedom and safety

On Monday, 2 November, French schools will commemorate the murder of Samuel Paty. On that day, the flags at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) will be flown at half-mast.

In doing so, the AUAS acknowledges the importance of freedom of expression and safe learning environments in which everyone is welcome, feels valued and is able to openly express and discuss their views.

Following the tragic events in France, the Dutch education ministers Van Engelshoven and Slob called on educational institutions in our country to speak out in favour of freedom of expression. The AUAS responds wholeheartedly to this call.
