The Executive Board has announced that AUAS Business Administration student Fernon Longfur will be the new student assessor effective 1 October 2021.

The student assessor is appointed to advise the Executive Board from a student perspective on all issues on the agenda. The Supervisory Board, the Executive Board and the Central Representative Advisory Council (CMR) were all represented in the appointment advisory committee. Longfur is the fifth student assessor to be appointed at the AUAS. Previous student assessors were Marco Kloek, Ruben Neuhaus, Oumaima el Hammouti and Elijah Alvares. The appointment is in force until 1 October 2022.

Themes

Fernon Longfur has started his third year studying Business Administration at the Faculty of Business & Economics and until recently was a student member of the CMR. From November 2019 to May 2021, he was a member of the Youth Council Equal Opportunities Alliance at the Ministry of Education, Culture & Science. Besides being a student he is also a specialist teacher at several primary schools. In this capacity, he trains pupils from group 1 to group 8 in digital skills and he trains their teachers in how to give these lessons themselves. Longfur's themes for the coming year are equal opportunities and digitalisation. These fit in well with the objectives of the AUAS.

Student perspective

Executive Board Chair Jopie Nooren is excited about the appointment. "The student perspective that Fernon brings to the table is of great value and I look forward to our collaboration. During the interview, he took us through his own development as a person and the passions he has developed through his life experiences. His focus on developing themes such as equal opportunities and digitalisation are of great importance to the AUAS in the context of our Strategic Plan 2021-2026".

Fernon is also eager to get started: "As a student member of the CMR over the past academic year I have learned how crucial a good student perspective is in the decision-making process. I see the safeguarding of students' interests as a meaningful task that I perform with passion and a great sense of responsibility. I am really looking forward to continue doing that in my new role as student assessor. My time as CMR member has made me feel more connected to the AUAS than ever before; it feels like home. I want my fellow students to feel that as well. I have many ideas to make the AUAS feel even more like home, but above all I am curious to know what you think you need. So don't hesitate to contact me. I am here for all AUAS students, for you all, for you, for us!"
