The war in Ukraine

4 Mar 2022 09:56 | Communication

The events in Ukraine have profoundly affected us. We are concerned about the consequences for the people living in the affected area. We sympathise deeply with students, staff, their families and friends who are affected by this attack, regardless of where their roots are. We want to do everything in our power to support these students and staff members. The degree programmes will contact those directly involved and the AUAS will offer personalised solutions to students facing acute financial difficulties.

Support for students and staff

We understand that this situation can have a big impact on students and staff in our community. This is especially true for those with family or friends in the area, but possibly also for others who are sympathetic and worried. Do you need a listening ear or advice? Please get in touch with Student Info or your manager.

Help Ukraine

The war in Ukraine concerns us greatly. We have received messages from students and staff who are eager to help and support people in the affected area.

Giro 555 is a collaboration between eleven organisations that provide aid to Ukraine. These are Care, Cordaid, Kerk in Actie, Oxfam Novib, Plan International, Red Cross, Save the Children, Stichting Vluchteling, Terre des Hommes, Unicef and World Vision. You can donate through Giro 555. On 7 March they will host a national and regional media campaign, ‘Together in Action for Ukraine’.

University of Amsterdam (UvA) Professor Barbara Hogenboom has started a poster campaign with a peaceful, unifying message. The poster shows solidarity with Ukraine and rejects Putin's attack. It is a call for peace, freedom and democracy. You can download the poster here.

Collaboration with Russian organisations

We are currently suspending ongoing collaborations with Russian organisations in the education and research sectors. We adhere to the government's policy in this regard. The government is currently determining what is allowed and what isn't. As soon as we have more information about this, we will share it with you.
