AUAS signs Amnesty manifesto against sexual violence

AUAS Chair Jopie Nooren says: 'It’s incredibly important that every student and employee feels safe at the AUAS at all times. We’ve expressed this in the same way in our strategic plan. By signing the manifesto, we want to emphasise once again that we are and will continue to actively work on this.'

Prior to the signing ceremony, the AUAS examined which actions were needed to implement the manifesto’s contents. Training and education have started and will be expanded as part of the AUAS's social safety policy during 2023.

Examples of this are when Amnesty provided students with information about social safety during the first-year introduction programme last September, and when the AUAS's active student community took part in a workshop on social safety during the annual Student Affairs training weekend, which also included information from the manifesto. The AUAS Academy is currently creating training courses about the AUAS’s code of conduct and is integrating the manifesto’s contents into them, as well as the other issues identified by our confidential advisers: discrimination, intimidation and bullying. The topic of social safety in relation to our code of conduct will also become a permanent part of the Teaching Qualification for lecturers at Universities of Applied Sciences (TQUAS) and of our leadership programmes.

The signing took place at a special gathering. In addition to Amnesty, students of the Social Work Bachelor’s programme also talked about their research in relation to the manifesto.
