AUAS appoints Miles Schleifer Photographer in Residence
11 Jul 2024 10:01 | CommunicationPhotographer Miles Schleifer will be the Photographer in Residence at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) for the academic year 2024-2025. In this role, he will take artistic photographs on special occasions. Every year, a changing jury chooses a photographer from the graduation exhibition Photography of the Rietveld Academy.
On special occasions, Schleifer will create a work of art for the AUAS. Schleifer will also be given the opportunity to display his work at an AUAS location.
Jury report
This year, the quality of the works was exceptionally high, making it challenging for the jury to choose a winner. It was inspiring to see students use material, technologies, and techniques. One student stood out: Miles Schleifer, whose work "Cloud Chamber" elevates the ordinary to an aesthetic ritual, inviting viewers to take a second look and appreciate the complexity of the world. The jury was impressed by his eye for detail and use of light, and they look forward to seeing how his storytelling will honor those the HvA wishes to recognize. Miles' work captures activities and contributions in full detail and light, celebrating everyday beauty.
AUAS has been working on its Photographer in Residence programme with the Gerrit Rietveld Academie since 2015. This programme enables AUAS to supplement its own art collection with original work from a young artist who trained in Amsterdam. The artist gets an opportunity to reach new audiences. Previous PiRs were Martino de Grandis (2023) and Michel Sylla (2022).
