I always knew that I wanted to do something with sports. I thought about the ALO for a while, but I do not want to become a teacher. That's not for me. I'd rather do something with economics. By chance, I came across Sport Studies and that is the perfect combination of Sports and Business with an international orientation.

I love our international classroom. The atmosphere is so good. There are so many cultures, religions, backgrounds and stories and everyone is open to each other.

Veronique: student - Sport Studies

How did you experience the introduction week?

It was a fun day, but also a bit crazy. On such a day you don't really know what's happening to you and you don't know anyone yet. At the start of the day we gathered on a large grass field and had to do some crazy assignments. Then all of a sudden you are jumping and singing with five fellow students. Silly, but it does help you to loosen up and connect you with others.

What do you like and dislike about the study programme?

I love our international classroom. The atmosphere is so good. Students come from Germany, Spain and Italy but also from the United States and Canada. There are so many cultures, religions, backgrounds and stories and everyone is open to each other.

I don't like Research as much because of all those difficult terms. I don't have any experience in it either, but there is a lot of guidance, so I'm sure I will be fine. (laughs)

What sports do you do during the course?

You do sports almost every day. We did, for example, football, basketball, volleyball, fitness to music, gymnastics, dance, and martial arts, but also climbing, ice skating and athletics. It is all very diverse and it is precisely the alternation between sports and theory that makes learning so much fun. The teachers use the sports to teach you something. In team sports, for instance, you learn how to work in a diverse team. In martial arts, you learn how to deal with difficult situations. So through sports, you also build your management skills.

What are the best moments of your first year so far?

Two memorable moments were the field trip to the Ardennes in the first block and the presentation festival. During the field trip, we spent the night together, did team building and went abseiling and zip lining. You explore your own boundaries and at the same time you get to know your fellow students better.

The presentation festival was fun too: We had to prepare and perform a gymnastics and dance show. Of course you have to love that, but putting on a show like that together, the atmosphere on a day like that and the emotional release afterwards made it unforgettable.

Do you already have an idea of what direction you want to go in?

The commercial direction (Sports Commerce) and the direction of top sport (High Performance) attract me the most. I know I like finance and marketing but other than that, everything is still open.
