Garnishment of wages

If you are unable to meet your financial obligations, your creditors have the right to confiscate (a portion of) your wages.

To do so, they need to call in a bailiff. This so-called garnishment of wages can only be executed on the basis of a court ruling. The AUAS is compelled to cooperate with a garnishment of wages. You are therefore advised to tell your HR advisor as soon as possible about any financial difficulties that you may have, as he or she may be able to help you find a solution for them. You can also visit (anonymously and free of charge) the preventive consulting hour of the Occupational Health and Safety Service of Amsterdam UMC (AC, FS, ICTS, IXA and Library staff) or HumanCapitalCare (faculty staff) to discuss your situation and/or submit a request for financial assistance to the SGVA (see below).

Membership of the Social Facilities Fund for Municipal Employees in Amsterdam (SVGA)

The SVGA is a fund of various Amsterdam institutions that provides assistance to members if financial problems occur. Employees of the AUAS can also become members of this fund. Employees who are members can, under certain conditions, appeal to the fund if they need financial aid. Membership amounts to €0.45 per month. This amount will be deducted from your salary. The same amount is paid by the AUAS as employer. There is a waiting period of 6 months and the financial problem must have arisen during membership. More information and the method of registration can be found at the SGVA website (in Dutch).
