Basic security for your computer and laptop
Install antivirus software, a firewall and the most recent software updates
- If you work on a laptop not managed by ICTS, you are personally responsible for taking proper security measures. In addition to antivirus software, a firewall and updating your operating system software, you also need to register your equipment. With this, ICT Services secures your equipment via the Intune business portal: your system is encrypted and the recovery key is stored. If your device is lost or stolen, ICT Services can remotely wipe the contents with your approval. This makes your data and that of the AUAS more secure. Check SecureSelf for more information. (in Dutch).
- If you work on a laptop managed by ICTS, you don't need to do anything as basic security measures are already in place. Do watch out for suspicious emails and don't open any unexpected attachments from unknown sources.
Never leave your computer, laptop or tablet unattended. Lock your screen any time you are away for any length of time.

- Linux: short cut key combination Ctrl-Alt-L (may not work on some versions of Linux).
- Mac: configure your computer/laptop to go into sleep mode when you're not working on it, requiring a password to be reactivated. You can configure the password activation option under the Mac OS X security settings. Navigate to: System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Select 'Require password' for sleep mode and screen lock. For more information, see the website of Apple.
