Student ID Card

How do I get a (new) student ID card? What can I use my student ID card for? How and where do I top up credit on my student ID card? On this page you will find the answers to questions concerning your student ID card.

  • When you become a student at the AUAS, you first have to request a Student ID card. For this you need an AUAS-ID (every starting student receives an email with an AUAS-ID and password)
  • Go to to upload your passport photo for the Student ID card.
    Please note: you can upload your photo on on a laptop or desktop.

Please ensure that your passport photo meets at least the following requirements:​

  1. It must be a clear, recent passport-quality passport photo. The photo must be clear and detailed and must provide sufficient contrast (not too light or too dark).
  2. It must be a good likeness of you.
  3. The file must be a JPEG file.
  4. The file must be no smaller than 50 KB and no bigger than 3 MB.
  5. Your face (chin, mouth, nose, eyes and eyebrows) must be fully visible, even with head covering, and you must be facing forwards.
  6. The main part of the photo must be your face.
  7. The photo must be of one person only.
  8. The photo can be colour or black and white.
  9. Photos with a Snapchat (or similar) filter are not permitted.

Please note: Your student ID card also serves as a proof of identity. When you use an unclear or unusable picture your student ID card will not be considered valid.

  • If you applied for your student card, you will receive your card at home at the address you provided. This always happens the week after you have applied for the card.
    Please note: If you registered an international address , you will receive an email on when and where to come and collect it. Please bring along a valid ID.
  • To use the functionalities on the card, you first have to activate your ID card online. Log in to myhvacard and choose 'Activate' at card options. Your student ID card is now ready for use. This can be done up to May 1th 2021. After May 1th you can only activate the card at one of the service desks. Please bring along a valid ID.
  • If you have requested a replacement card, you cannot activate it online. This must be done at one of the service desks.
    Please note: Most service desks are closed due to the corona measures, so activation can be done when the service desks are opened again. For this you need a valid ID (ID, passport, driver's license). The locations of the service points and adjusted opening hours can be found below.
  • The service desks remain open during holidays, teaching-free periods, and Covid-19 though probably with adjusted opening hours.
    Please note: You will also need to activate your student ID card so that you can use it to make payments.

You can use your student ID card to:

  • confirm your identity when attending classes and when using study centres at all AUAS locations.
    Please note: you need a valid ID (ID card or passport) to confirm your identity for exams.
  • pay for printing services
  • borrow books from the university library or the university of applied sciences library
  • get entrance to bicycle and car parkings when authorized
  • get student discounts offered by the student cultural organisation CREA
  • use lockers in the Benno Premselahuis, Fraijlemaborg, Kohnstammhuis, Muller-Lulofshuis and Theo Thijssenhuis.
  • make payments:
    ​- at the vending machines selling hot and cold drinks and sweets
    ​- at the customer service desks.
    - at the library information desks (in addition to using a debit card)
    - at the catering locations

Please note: Your student ID card must be activated to make payments. If you have not yet activated your student ID card, go to one of the service points to activate it.

For as long as you are registered as an AUAS student.

The student ID card is not a Proof of Enrolment. The proof of Enrolment wll be sent by email to your AUAS email address after you have met all conditions for enrolment and your tuition fees have been paid.

Yes, that is correct. All students who have enrolled will receive a student ID card. Also new students who have applied for enrolment in Studielink.

  • You can block your student ID card via myhvacard and at any of the service desks.
  • Apply for a new student ID card from myhvacard (payment via iDeal). A new student ID card costs €15 (covering security, production, administration and postage costs).
  • Was your card stolen and did you report the theft to the police? Take the police report to one of the service desks to apply for a new student ID card free of charge.
  • You will receive an email telling you when you can pick up your new student ID card.

The credit on your old student ID card (if you have not withdrawn it) will automatically be loaded onto your new card.
