Changing your AUAS ID password

The AUAS attaches great importance to digital security. To ensure that our employees can work safely, we take various measures. Passwords are a vulnerable element in our security. It is therefore necessary to change your AUAS ID password regularly.

How do I change my password?

Change your password on the device you work with the most. This can be your managed ICT workstation or a self managed ICT workstation. Only after doing so, proceed with changing your password on your other (mobile or personal) devices. Choose the situation that applies to you below.

Please note! It is important to carefully follow all the steps on your managed workspace. This will prevent your AUAS ID from being blocked because your devices will automatically keep trying to connect with the old password. If your new password doesn’t work, try to log in again after half an hour. Does it still not work? Contact Service Desk ICT Services.

Preparation

Step 1 (on your ICT workstation)

Close all applications and save your files, as you will need to restart your ICT workstation later in the process.

Step 2

Make sure you are connected to VPN: type 'Ivanti' into the search field in the lower left-hand corner of the task bar. Then open Ivanti. You will see 'HVA VPN connected' with a green and white check mark behind it if your VPN is on. If not, click on 'Connect' and log in with your AUAS ID.

Change Password

Step 1 (On your managed ICT workstation)

  • Go to id.hva.nl and choose the option I want to change my password.
  • Then follow the steps on the website.
  • You will receive a confirmation of the password change on your AUAS-mail from the Servicedesk ICT Services (servicedesk-icts@hva.nl). If you have a private email address in DSPM, you will also receive the confirmation on that address.

Step 2

Check again if you are connected to VPN. See step 3 of the preparation if you are not sure.

Step 3

  • Lock your ICT workstation via the Windows key+L
  • Next, unlock your ICT workstation with your new password.

Step 4

Restart your ICT workstation.

Step 5 (On your other devices)

After you have changed the password on your ICT workstation, you will also need to set the new password on all the other (mobile and/or personal) devices on which you use your AUAS account. Do not switch on all your devices at the same time, but do this one by one after you have changed the passwords for each of them. This is important because your devices will automatically try to connect at the same time using the old password, which may cause your account to be blocked.

Change the passwords immediately for all applications (such as Office, Microsoft 365, including Teams, OneDrive, mail and calendar) or services (such as VPN, printing, AUAS Wi-Fi) that you use on those devices. In the drop-down menus, you will find tips on how to do this for each application or service.

Note: If your new password doesn’t work, try to log in again after half an hour. Does it still not work? Contact the Service Desk ICT Services.

Please note that it is important tot follow the steps below carefully. If you don't, your AUAS ID may be blocked because devices will automatically keep trying to connect to the old password. If your new password doesn’t work, try to log in again after half an hour. Does it still not work? Contact the Service Desk ICT Services.

Changing your password

Step 1

  • Go to id.hva.nl and select I want to change my password.
  • Follow the the steps on the website.
  • You will receive a confirmation of the password change on your AUAS-mail from the Servicedesk ICT Services (servicedesk-icts@hva.nl). If you have a private email address in DSPM, you will also receive the confirmation on that address.

Step 2

Determine whether you are working on an AUAS account or on a local account. This determines the steps to take.

  1. Mac and Linux always work with a local account.
  2. Windows can work with either an AUAS or a local account. You can determine your account type as follows:
  • Click on the Windows menu via the icon at the bottom left of your screen and click on 'settings' (the little wheel).
  • Choose 'account' (puppet icon) in the overview. If you see your AUAS mail address there, you are on an AUAS account. If you see 'local account' or your private email address, you are working on a local account.

I have an AUAS account

Your computer password will change automatically. Most basic services linked to your AUAS ID are automatically updated with your new password. However, some services may ask you for your new password. Please take this into account. You can continue to step 3.

I have a local account

Your computer password does not change and you do not need to. However, you will need to provide all the services linked to your AUAS ID with your new password yourself: unfortunately, this does not happen automatically. We have listed the most important ones for you. How to do this is explained per topic in the drop-down menus. Once you have done this, go to step 3.

Step 3 (On your other devices)

In the pull-down menus, you will find tips on how to do this for each application or service.

Note: If your new password doesn’t work, try to log in again after half an hour. Does it still not work? Contact the Service Desk ICT Services.

If your AUAS ID is your primary ID, but do you also have a UvAnetID, then be sure to change the password for your UvAnetID as well. Find out how to do this below.

  • Go to id.uva.nl and select I want to change my password.
  • Follow the steps on the screen.

You have probably entered the wrong password for your UvAnetID too many times. Please contact the ICTS Service Desk.
