Confidential adviser undesirable conduct

If you are confronted with undesirable conduct in your study/work placement situation, you may contact an AUAS Confidential Adviser.

  • provide information and advice regarding undesirable conduct;
  • to arrange adequate care and support for the person reporting the undesirable conduct;
  • to ensure the information provided is treated confidentially;
  • to seek an informal solution to the situation;
  • to assist the complainant in filing a formal complaint and the formal handling of the complaint.

If you have any questions or complaints relating to undesirable conduct you can contact the Confidential Adviser regarding undesirable conduct. You can tell them about the situation and discuss what you could do. The Confidential Adviser will ensure your question or complaint is handled confidentially, seek a solution together with you, and provide assistance should you decide to file a formal complaint.

Your request for an appointment will be forwarded by Kitty de Jong-Damen (secretary student counsellor and confidential adviser for students) to one of the confidential advisers who will contact you within 5 working days to make an appointment. It goes without saying that your request for an appointment will be treated as completely confidential.

Confidential Advisers are appointed by the Executive Board and have an independent position within the AUAS.

At the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences there are five confidential advisers for students: Mrs Reina Dooijewaard, Mr Alfred Peerboom, Mr Pieter Ruijssenaars, Mrs Cora Verkley, Mrs Jacqueline Pulles.

If you have any questions or remarks about the confidential adviser for students, please contact the director of Student Affairs, Ms. Marjolijn Kaak

Sexual harassment

If you are confronted with conduct of a sexual nature which you experience as undesirable or threatening, this is considered sexual harassment. Comments relating to appearance, suggestive remarks with a double meaning and advances are examples of this.

Aggression and violence, bullying

Aggression and violence include incidents in which you, as a student, are physically or psychologically harassed, threatened or attacked, or bullied.

Discrimination

Discrimination includes comments, expressed in any way whatsoever, which are insulting to the person concerned in connection with their ethnicity, origin, religion, gender, beliefs, handicap and/or sexual orientation.

These Regulations are an elaboration of Article U-1 of the 2005 Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) for higher professional education and constitute part of the AUAS Students' Charter. Distinctive aspects of these Regulations are:

  • the confidential nature of the complaints procedure;
  • the composition of an independent appropriately competent Complaints Committee;
  • the period within which a complaint must be submitted for it to be handled;
  • the sanctions which apply under the law, the CLA or the Students' Charter.
