Do you have questions about the immigration procedure in the Netherlands? Want to know which steps you need to take? We will guide you through it.

If you want to study at AUAS it is important to know whether you need a residence permit. Find out below whether this is the case.

DO I NEED A RESIDENCE PERMIT TO STUDY AT AUAS?

Please use our Pathfinder tool to see if an immigration procedure is required in your situation. Do not forget to fill in your nationality in order to receive the correct information.

You only need to start the immigration procedure if one of the following categories appear in your personalized results:

  • Residence Permit for Study (TEV)
  • Residence Permit for Study (VVR)

HOW CAN I OBTAIN AN ENTRY VISA AND A RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDY PURPOSES?

You need to apply for enrolment in the degree programme in time. You will find the deadlines applicable to you on the page of your chosen programme. For general enrolment conditions, see the enrolment and re-enrolment page.

If you are a non-EU/EEA national, you will receive a message from the Central Student Administration when you apply for enrolment, with information on the various stages of the enrolment process.

WHEN WILL IMMIGRATION AFFAIRS CONTACT YOU?

If you need a residence permit AUAS Immigration Affairs will guide you through it and will apply for one on your behalf. You cannot apply for it yourself. AUAS Immigration Affairs will send you the immigration procedure e-mail a few months before the degree programme starts, with all the necessary information. You will receive this e-mail on the following date:

  • For degree programmes (Bachelor's/Master's) that start in September, we will send an email in May.
  • If you have not received an e-mail after 15 May, please contact us.

HOW TO PREPARE?

First of all it is important that you are fully enrolled at AUAS and have met all the enrolment requirements. You do not need to take any action before the beginning of May regarding the immigration procedure. However, you can prepare yourself in advance by following the next three steps:

See an overview of the procedure applicable to you by selecting your result on Pathfinder. You can find the overviews on the right side of the page, or for mobile users below this page.

  • Residence Permit for Study TEV: see blue box
  • Residence Permit for Study VVR: see green box

Check the costs page to see which payments are applicable to your situation. These costs are necessary for the immigration procedure and for living in the Netherlands.

The Dutch Government requires all universities in the Netherlands to make sure that incoming students have access to sufficient funds to sustain themselves in the Netherlands during there studies. The proof of financial means page will inform you about this requirement set by the Dutch Government and is therefore part of the immigration procedure but not a payment. This rule is applicable for all universities in the Netherlands. You will receive a refund of the proof of financial means when the immigration procedure is completely finalized.
