Questions about the immigration procedure for the Netherlands? Want to know which steps you need to take? We will guide you through it.

If you want to study at AUAS it is important to know whether you need a residence permit. Find out below whether this is the case.

DO I NEED A RESIDENCE PERMIT TO STUDY AT AUAS?

Please fill in your situation in our Pathfinder tool to see whether you need to undergo the immigration procedure. Do not forget to fill in your nationality in order to receive the correct information.

You only need to undergo the immigration procedure if one of the following categories appear in your personalized results:

HOW CAN I OBTAIN AN ENTRY VISA AND A RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDY PURPOSES?

You must apply for your exchange programme in time. See the page of your chosen exchange programme for the deadlines.

If you are a non-EU/EEA national, the International Office of the faculty at which you wish to participate in the exchange programme will provide you with more information on what steps you need to take.

WHEN WILL IMMIGRATION AFFAIRS CONTACT YOU?

If you need a residence permit AUAS Immigration Affairs will guide you through it and will apply for one on your behalf. You cannot apply for it yourself. AUAS Immigration Affairs will send you the immigration procedure e-mail a few months before your programme starts with all the necessary information. You will receive this e-mail:

  • For exchange programmes that start in September (Fall semester): in May
  • For exchange programmes that start in February (Spring semester): in November

HOW TO PREPARE?

You do not need to undertake any action before these dates. However, you can prepare yourself in advance in three ways:

See an overview of the procedure applicable to you by selecting your result on Pathfinder. You can find the overviews on the right side of the page, or for mobile users below this page.

Check the costs page to see which payments are necessary for the immigration procedure and for living in the Netherlands.

The Dutch Government requires all universities in the Netherlands to make sure that incoming students have access to sufficient funds to sustain themselves in the Netherlands during there studies. The proof of financial means page will inform you about this requirement set by the Dutch Government and is therefore part of the immigration procedure but not a payment. This rule is applicable for all universities in the Netherlands. You will receive a refund of the proof of financial means when the immigration procedure is completely finalized.
