Proof of financial means

For the immigration procedure you need to fulfill certain requirements set by the Dutch Government. One of these requirements is the proof of financial means.

WHAT IS THE PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS?

The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) requires that you have sufficient financial means to cover your stay in the Netherlands. The required minimum amount set by the IND is €900 a month. Students who come to AUAS for one semester need to show that they have sufficient financial resources for a period of seven months. Please note that this is not a payment. It’s only showing that you have enough money to sustain yourself here in the Netherlands.

  • The Proof of Financial means for one semester: €6.300.
  • The Proof of Financial Means for one academic year/2 semesters: is €10.800.

HOW TO PROVIDE YOUR PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS?

There are four ways to prove your financial means. You can choose which option is most suitable or convenient for you*. Please click on each option to see which requirements must be met. If the requirements are not met we can not accept the proof of financial means.

* Please note that for students from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and India only option 1 is available.

The first option is to transfer the required amount directly into our bank account. You will receive a refund of the amount in the first month of your study programme.*

If you choose this option, please write in the reference: "AUAS VVR + your full name (last name, first name) + your date of birth (dd-mm-yyyy).” This is the only way we can locate your payment(s). Make sure that you indicate that you will pay for all the international transaction costs. If you fail to do so you need to transfer the remaining amount separately!

* In the first week of September we will send you a refund form. After we received this form filled in, it will take between 10-20 working days before you will receive the money into your account. We cannot speed up this process, so take enough money with you to sustain yourself in the first two months after arrival.

The second option to prove your financial means is through sending us a copy of an original bank letter. It must meet the following requirements:

  • The account must be held solely in your name and must contain your full name*;
  • Issued on official company paper in one of the following languages: English/ Dutch/ German/ French;
  • The bank letter must state in print that funds are “freely accessible and can be withdrawn at any time” or it must state checking or savings account. For Certificate of Deposits the sentence that funds are freely accessible and can be withdrawn at any time must always be present;
  • The date of issue (not issued more than 3 months before the deadline);
  • The account number must be specified;
  • Must state that the funds in the account are sufficient to meet your financial means in euros or their equivalent in your local currency;
  • Must mention the bank’s contact details (branch address, phone number, e-mail address and/or website);
  • Must mention a contact person, signature and official stamp;
  • For students that will follow an AUAS bachelor or master, read and fulfill the additional information below this page as well.

Please see the grey box on the right (or for mobile users below) for an example of an accepted bank letter.

* When you have a joint account you must attach a copy passport and financial statement of all joint account holders. You can find the financial statement for sponsor form in the green box on the right side of the screen (for mobile users below).

The third option to provide your proof of financial means is through a sponsor who lives outside the Netherlands. We do not accept sponsors within the Netherlands with a Dutch bank account.

You need to provide three items:

  1. A copy of a valid passport of the sponsor;

  2. The financial statement for sponsors, signed by sponsor. See green box on the right (or for mobile users below) to download this form;

  3. Bank statement with the following requirements:

  • The account must be held solely in the name of your sponsor and must contain the sponsor's full name*;
  • Issued on official company paper in one of the following languages: English/ Dutch/ German/ French;
  • The bank statement must state in print that funds are “freely accessible and can be withdrawn at any time” or it must state checking or savings account. For Certificate of Deposits the sentence that funds are freely accessible and can be withdrawn at any time must always be present;
  • The date of issue (not issued more than 3 months before the deadline);
  • The account number must be specified;
  • Must state that the funds in the account are sufficient to meet your financial means in euros or their equivalent in your local currency;
  • Must mention the bank’s contact details (branch address, phone number, e-mail address and/or website);
  • Must mention a contact person, signature and official stamp;
  • For students that will follow an AUAS bachelor or master, read and fulfill the additional information below this page as well.

Please see the blue box on the right (or for mobile users below) for an example of an accepted bank statement for sponsors.

* When you have a joint account you must attach a copy passport and financial statement of all joint account holders. You can find the financial statement for sponsor form in the green box on the right side of the screen (for mobile users below).                         .

Option 4 is providing the proof of financial means through a scholarship or grant. Please keep in mind that Student loan(s) will not be accepted as part of your proof of financial means. A correct scholarship declaration must shows:

  • The date;
  • The institution granting the scholarship;
  • Your personal details (initials, surname and date of birth);
  • The start and finish of the scholarship (start and end date);
  • The amount you receive;
  • The name of the scholarship programme;
  • For students that will follow an AUAS bachelor or master, read and fulfill the additional information below this page as well.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS THAT WILL FOLLOW AN AUAS BACHELOR OR MASTER

This information is not applicable for exchange students, but only for students that will follow a bachelor or master at AUAS. The Dutch Immigration Service needs to check that you have (or your sponsor has) enough money to cover your tuition fee and proof of financial means. This means that you cannot pay your tuition fee from the proof of the financial means amount. If you use option 1 ‘transfer’, this will not be a problem, but for option 2, 3 and 4 you need to take the following into account:

  1. First transfer the total tuition fee amount to our AUAS account.
  2. The date of your bank statement/sponsor bank statement or scholarship letter needs to be later than the date of your transfer of the tuition fee.
