Online exams from home (Proctorio)

On this page, you will find all the information you need on online exams that are administered with the support of the FBE Education Office.

BEFORE THE EXAM – Instruction email

You will always receive an email containing information and instructions relating to the exam around five working days before the exam. If you have not received this email, check your mailbox’s spam folder or check in SIS that you have been registered correctly. If necessary, contact the Education Office.

What is TestVision Online

Most online exams are administered using TestVision Online. This is an online testing system.

Online invigilation

Exams administered using TestVision often involve the use of Proctorio online proctoring software. This is an online monitoring programme that monitors you via your webcam. Your screen may also be recorded. images created via the online monitoring system will be stored for 6 months and destroyed afterwards.

If Proctorio is not used, the examiner/lecturer can observe students during the exam using Virtual Classroom or MS Teams. These applications are secure and meet the privacy requirements. The images are not recorded and stored. You may therefore be asked to turn your camera and audio on during the exam. Students can blur the background.

Any irregularities or suspected fraud will be reported to the Examinations Board. For more information on fraud and plagiarism, you should refer to Chapter 4 of the Teaching and Examination Regulations (OER).

Log in with your AUAS ID and password

At least a day before your exam, you should check that you can log into TestVision Online without any problems. Go to hva.testvision.nl/online/kandidaten and log in via SURFConext with your AUAS ID and password.

Use the Google Chrome browser only.

As soon as you have logged in, make sure you can immediately see the practice test. If you have a query in this regard, please email onderwijsbureau.fbe@hva.nl.

Practice test

TestVision has a general practice test to help you familiarise yourself with TestVision Online and Proctorio. In other words, it is not a practice test that is similar to the exam. It is important that you sit this practice test to familiarise yourself with the test environment and proctoring and so you can report any problems in good time. The practice test is also designed to test the equipment, your camera and audio, for example.

Check whether you can log into TestVision and start the test without any problems. Use the Google Chrome browser only. If the event of a problem, contact the Education Office.

I cannot sit an exam at home

If there is no suitable room where you can sit an exam on your own at home or if there are other compelling reasons why you cannot sit an exam safely and in peace, you can inform the Examinations Board for your programme that this is the case. You will then be given the option of sitting the exam at an AUAS or other location. Make sure you let the Examinations Board know in good time via the digital Service Point so they can organise a location for you. Select the option ‘Other Requests’, specify which exams you are sitting and remember that the Examinations Board and the Education Office need at least five working days to process your request. The Examinations Board may ask you to prove that you are actually unable to sit the exam at home.

I do not have the necessary hardware

If it is clear from the practice test that you do not have the hardware you need to sit the exam at home, you will be given the option of sitting the exam at an AUAS or other location. The Examinations Board may ask you to prove that you are actually unable to sit the exam at home. Make sure you let the Examinations Board for your programme know in good time so they can organise a location for you.

Special examination provisions

Before the exam takes place, the Education Office will check whether there are any students who are entitled to special provisions.

If you are entitled to extra time to complete the exam, the exam duration will be modified for you in TestVision Online so you can make use of the extra time. You must have applied for the special provisions in good time, and they must have been approved by the student counsellor.

If you use different facilities, such as a special laptop or software, make sure you contact the student counsellor in good time so you can sit the exam in the extra time room.

DURING THE EXAM – On the day of the exam

On the day of your online exam, you can log into Testvision Online via hva.testvision.nl/online/kandidaten.Your exam will appear an hour before the start. Make sure your laptop is connected to mains power and the Internet. If necessary, use an Internet (LAN) cable to ensure that your Internet connection is as stable as possible.

If you cannot see the test, refresh the page (by pressing F5 for Windows or Command+R for Mac)! If your exam does not appear, please contact LiveChat via examsupport.hva.nl.

Monitoring of IP address

During online exams, at the request of the Examinations Board, the Education Office monitors which IP addresses students log in from. If students are working from the same IP address, this will be reported. The Examinations Board is aware that working from the same IP address does not necessarily mean that fraud is involved.

Log in on time

Students are expected to start the exam on time.

The exam will automatically be visible in the system an hour before the start time and no earlier.

The exam is protected by a password, which will be removed by the Education Office when the exam starts. In other words, you do not have to enter a password yourself.

The names of students who do not log in and start the exam within 20 minutes of the start time will be forwarded to the Examinations Board. If you do not log in within 20 minutes of the start time, the Examinations Board may declare your exam invalid.

Identification using student ID card

Where exams involve the use of proctoring, you will be asked to provide ID at the start of the exam. You will do this by clearly showing your AUAS ID card on your webcam, so make sure you have a valid AUAS ID card when you are sitting an online exam.

It may be that you will sit an online exam without proctoring. In that case, your identity cannot be checked. Clearly, you must sit the exam on your own. Consequently, the exam will start with a declaration that states you are taking the exam yourself. If identity fraud is suspected, the Examinations Board will be notified.

What do I do if I have a query during the exam

If you run into technical problems or issues about the content of the exam in Testvision, please first check whether the answer can be found on the webpage examsupport.hva.nl.

If you cannot resolve the problem, send a message via the chat function (Live Chat) at the bottom right of the screen. Enter your student ID number, the name of the exam and the name of your faculty.

Make sure you do not share any personal data. If we ask you to do so, provide your student ID number only.

How long do I have to submit the exam

You can find the duration of your exam on the timetable, and it is specified in the instruction email sent to you in advance. During the exam, a clock will be running on your screen in TestVision.

Check at the start where you have stored the file on your computer, so you do not have to search endlessly at the end and run out of time. Do not use special characters in the file name, as this may cause problems when uploading the file. If you are unable to submit the exam or you are too late in doing so, let us know immediately via the LiveChat. Never just send your work to the lecturer or the Education Office.

After the exam

The lecturer may use the plagiarism scanner to determine whether you obtained help from third parties. This also covers making your work available to other students, which is also a type of fraud. If plagiarism or fraud is suspected, the Examinations Board will be notified. For more information on fraud and plagiarism, you should refer to Chapter 4 of the Teaching and Examination Regulations (OER).

If there is doubt regarding the authenticity of your answers, the lecturer may ask you to verbally explain a random question from the open book exam in order to corroborate the answer that you gave. This may be done up to 15 working days after the date of exam, unless different instructions have been provided by the examinator beforehand.
