FAQ

The following questions were asked frequently which is why this page was established. You still could not find an answer to your question? Contact us through topsport@hva.nl.

The application of AUAS elite athletes for the TAA can happen through different channels.

1. The potential AUAS elite athlete gets in contact via:

  • The website: he or she fills in the admission form.
  • Phone or mail: the elite sports coordinator sends the candidate an admission form.
  • The elite athlete enters the Cruyff Academy (JCA): the JCA and TAA have a direct consultation. The athlete receives the admission form.
  • The elite athlete is already studying at AUAS and is referred to the TAA by the study advisor or the student counselor.

2. For international student athletes, there are two basic rules we take in consideration when entering the AUAS sport policy:

  1. The reason for pursuing a dual career in Amsterdam: Do you come to Amsterdam to improve your sports level and reach your ultimate sport goals? Or is Amsterdam the best study option to become a high level professional outside sport? And you still want to be able to work on your development as an elite talent/athlete?
  2. Sports level: do you play on a comparable level the sport federation and NOC in the Netherlands has defined (national (youth) team)?

Do you meet these criteria? A meeting is scheduled for the admission interview. Don’t you meet these criteria? The application is rejected.

3. The next step is the admission interview.

As part of this interview, the AUAS elite sport policy is explained including the responsibilities of AUAS, the sports organisation and the elite athlete.

4. The TAA draws up the AUAS elite sports declaration (valid for 1 year).

Afterwards, the elite athlete is put into contact with the study program, the student counselor and, if necessary, other studying elite athletes. This is to get acquainted with the different people and for a first coordination between studies and elite sport.

You are eligible for support if you meet the following criteria:

  • The reason for pursuing a dual career in Amsterdam: If you have come to Amsterdam to improve your sports level and reach your ultimate sports goals. Or if Amsterdam provides the best study option to become a high level professional outside sport while you still want to be able to work on your development as an elite talent/athlete.
  • Sports level: If you play on a comparable level to what the sport federations and NOC in the Netherlands have defined (national (youth) team).

Get in contact with the elite sports coordinator of your faculty, send an Email to topsport@hva.nl or fill in the admission form.

That differs per study programme, please get in contact with the elite sports coordinator of your faculty. Elite sports policy and support requires customization as every situation is different.

We can only help you if you receive a statement from your sports federation that you only temporarily do not have an official elite athlete status. This could be because you are transitioning from junior to senior team or because you are injured. In addition, we give out a temporary project talents status if you are internationally active and represent your country or AUAS there. Examples are European Cup competitions or a European Championship/ World Cup and your sport/specific discipline does not fall under the NOC*NSF status system.

In order to classify the elite athletes at AUAS, we use the elite sports and talent profiles of the Dutch National Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) and the Elite sports Foundation Amsterdam. That means that the sport determines whether you are a talent/elite athlete. For a non-Dutch elite athlete, the classification might be more complex so please get in contact if in doubt.
