In the Netherlands you cannot pay with credit cards everywhere. Therefore it is very convenient to open a Dutch bank account. We have made special arrangements with Rabobank.

Are you a citizen from a Euro country? Since the introduction of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), it is possible for Dutch companies to collect money from a foreign bank account. In this case, it might not be necessary to open a Dutch bank account.

You can open a bank account with a bank branch of your choice. However, at most banks you will need your Dutch Citizen Service number (CSN). It will take a few weeks after your arrival before you will receive your CSN from the municipality of Amsterdam. Rabobank is a Dutch cooperative bank, a global financial institution with many customers across the world in more than 44 countries.

Required documents to open a Rabobank account:

  • Proof of enrollment at AUAS (or you can show your student ID card)
  • Your passport or ID and a copy of your passport or ID
  • Students from non-EU countries need to bring their resident permit or a letter from the IND or AUAS immigration department stating the confirmation of residence permit application

In addition:

  • You need to deliver your CSN to the Rabobank at the latest 4 weeks after opening your bank account.
  • Contact the Rabobank directly if you have any questions.
