AMFI - Amsterdam Fashion Institute (English Programme)

On this page you can find information about the number of contact hours during your studies, the number of hours you spend on self-study and the binding study advice (BSA).

Contact time

Amongst other activities, contact time will be devoted to workshops, tool shops, lectures, coaching and assessments. There will be 16 contact hours per week in the first year. Contact hours are calculated in units equalling 50 minutes.

In addition to your contact hours, you are expected to spend around 24 hours a week working (either independently or with fellow students) on projects and research, carrying out assignments and preparing for lessons and assessments via self-study.

Students who receive an average mark of 8 or higher for all course components will be awarded the designation ‘cum laude’.

Binding study advice

Each academic year, you can earn 60 credits. If you earn less than 45 credits, AUAS will issue you a negative binding study advice (BSA). This means you will not be able to continue the programme. You will then meet with your study coach to discuss whether another degree programme would be more suitable for you. One credit equals 28 hours of study.
