In total, you will spend an average of 40 hours a week on the ESP programme. These hours consist of contact hours and self-study. Each academic year includes 48 weeks of lessons or internships.

The ESP programme is a very demanding programme. You need to be highly motivated, tenacious, disciplined and capable of dealing with stress. If so, you stand a good chance of becoming a successful physiotherapist.

Contact time

The contact time within the degree programme comprises lectures/tutorials, practicals, patient visits and online collaboration and activities. The number of contact hours per week in the first year is 24. Contact hours are considered equivalent to 50-minute teaching hours.

Self-study

In addition to your contact hours, you are expected to spend around 29 hours working (either alone or with fellow students) on projects and research, assignments, or preparing for classes/exams via self-study.

Binding Study Advice (BSA)

In the first academic year, you must attain 80 credits. One credit equals 28 hours study time. If you obtain fewer than 50 credits, the AUAS will issue a negative binding study advice (BSA). This means you will not be able to continue with the programme. You can then discuss with your coach or student counsellor whether another course would be more suitable for you.
