Admission requirements

Sport Studies - track International Sports, Management and Business (ISMB)

To be admitted to Sport Studies - track ISMB you need to have completed secondary education equivalent to the Dutch havo, vwo or mbo-4 level and strong written and verbal English communications skills. Due to the limited number of study places, a selection day is part of the admission procedure.

Dutch students: admission requirements

  • Secondary education: HAVO, VWO or MBO diploma level 4.
  • English requirements: strong written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Sport Medical Examination: before you start the programme you need to have passed a sport medical examination at an independent organisation of sport medical professionals in the Netherlands.

MBO diploma

With an MBO diploma level 4 (senior secondary vocational education) you can start a HBO programme (higher professional education). There are no additional requirements. There are no exemptions made for courses obtained during MBO studies.

Please note! Only students with a valid MBO diploma, issued before 1 September 2021, are admissible to programmes starting in the academic year 2021-2022.

Non-Dutch students: admission requirements

Secondary education

You must have completed a suitable level of secondary education. The international equivalents of the required level include:

  • International Baccalaureate
  • British A levels
  • German (Fach)Abitur
  • French Baccalauréat

This means that you should have completed your secondary education at university entrance level in preferably Mathematics, Economics or Business.

Credential evaluation

If you attended school outside the Netherlands, you will be required to send your diploma and academic records to the admissions office when you apply for Sport Studies - track ISMB. Your diploma and academic records will be reviewed after your application. Please visit our credential evaluation page for additional information.

English language requirements

Sport Studies - track ISMB is taught entirely in English. Therefore, you will need to have strong written and verbal English communications skills. If you have completed secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English was the language of instruction, you will not need to provide proof of your English proficiency. Otherwise you will be required to provide academic proof of your English level.

To provide academic proof of your English level you will need to submit:

  • Your academic IELTS or TOEFL test scores, from a test completed within the past 12 months.
  • For IELTS: a score of 6.0 or higher.
  • For TOEFL: a minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based)
  • None of the sub-scores may be lower than 6 (IELTS) or 20 (TOEFL).

Sport Medical Examination

Before you start the programme you need to have passed a sport medical examination at an independent organisation of sport medical professionals in the Netherlands.
