Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

Research and cooperation

Partnering to drive urban progress

The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) is a knowledge institution in Amsterdam and for Amsterdam. The research we conduct is firmly anchored in professional practice. It contributes to the development of the city, in close cooperation with local companies, organisations and institutions.

The process of creating value via the dissemination of knowledge, to enable social and economic progress and the creation of innovative products, services and processes, is characteristic of higher professional education. It's also embedded at the AUAS.

Vitality in cities, management problems in metropolitan areas, studying and teaching in a complex urban context, technological solutions for livable cities, corporate frameworks that fit in an international society and IT-driven creative solutions to social issues: these are among the topics that AUAS is tackling as a knowledge institute, in cooperation with its regional partners in the Amsterdam metropolitan area.

In this context, the AUAS works closely with a plethora of Amsterdam businesses and institutions, including the Amsterdam Economic Board.

U!REKA: research cooperation across Europe

Beyond our focus on Amsterdam, AUAS also has ambitions to cooperate in research across borders. A concrete example of this is our role as a founding member of the Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance (U!REKA). This unites six European institutions of applied sciences, which have formed a strategic alliance around the shared themes of applied research, professional education, focus on our students’ future world of work and the professional development of our staff. This strategic alliance was officially launched in Amsterdam at the end of November 2016.
