Geert Savelsbergh - Professor and Desmond Tutu chair

Prof. Dr. Geert Savelsbergh is a professor and Desmond Tutu Chair for Sport, Youth and Reconciliation, as well as Head of the Motor Learning and Performance section of the Human Movement Sciences department at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) in Amsterdam.

From 1991 to 1996, Savelsbergh was a research fellow at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2008 he received an honorary doctorate from the Medical Faculty of the University of Ghent, Belgium. Since 2014, he has been the scientific coordinator at the Amsterdam Institute for Sport Science (AISS). And in 2015, Savelsbergh began a part-time professorship in Perceptual-Motor Talent Development at the AUAS.

Savelsbergh is also co-founder of the Athletic Skills Model (ASM) for optimal talent development, for which he collaborates with the cities of Amsterdam and Almere, various sports associations, MBO courses and higher professional education courses. Geert was also involved as a teacher in the Sports Leadership Programme at Nyenrode, and developed the High-Performance Sport module together with Thomas Tichelman, Programme Designer at the Sports Leadership Institute.
