EventSocial entrepreneurship (SE) plays an important role in tackling the grand challenges of our time, ranging from ecological issues like climate change to social ones such as inequality. How can research help the SE ecosystem to develop and flourish? And what kind of education can inspire people to take up these challenges through SE? These are the key questions of this conference.

The Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) annually brings together the SE ecosystem from around the globe; this year in Amsterdam.
The Research and Education Conference - a fringe day event on October 10th - follows the main theme and focuses on the key questions:
- How can research help the SE ecosystem to develop and flourish?
- What types and kinds of education can inspire (young) people to take up these challenges through SE?
Following the opening by Geleyn Meijer, Rector of the AUAS, the keynote speakers are:
- Michael Roy
, professor of economic sociology and social policy, Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland:
What are the 'hot topics' in social enterprise research today? And how can research complement practice, enhance policy effectiveness and promote the development of a truly inclusive 'field' of social enterprises? - Stella van der Wal-Maris
, Professor of Education and Social Entrepreneurship, Marnix Academy, Netherlands:
It is increasingly recognised that quality education is an answer to the challenges we face. In doing so, it is of great importance to empower students of all ages, increase hope and learn to turn hope into action that contributes to a just, peaceful and sustainable world.
This will be followed by a day-long programme packed with inspiring workshops and paper sessions, each looking from a different perspective at how research can help develop the social entrepreneurship ecosystem and what kind of education can inspire (young) people to become social entrepreneurs.
