U!REKA lectures: Expert European perspectives on Urban Commons

A new lecture series from the Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance

12 Mar 2021 12:56 | Communication

‘Urban Commons’- what’s behind the buzzword? From local car-sharing to community gardens, neighbourhood assistance programmes and local currencies – civic initiatives, based on the principle of common ownership, are on the rise. So too are questions about this new form of governance: How are they organised? What’s the impact of urban commons on areas ranging from social life and culture, to mobility, elderly care, climate change and housing? How does this kind of cooperation foster the Sustainable Development Goals?

Join the U!R Commons lecture series to dive into this hot topic during interactive online lectures.

Programme

The Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance (U!REKA) is bringing together urban commons experts from higher education institutions across Europe to share their expertise during thematic online lectures. Each session will approach the topic from a different perspective, discipline or organisation.

The series will kick off with a talk by Tine De Moor, professor Social Enterprise & Institutions for Collective Action at the Rotterdam School of Management. She is an expert on commons, from its early modern period origins in Europe until today; its creation, functioning and evolution. De Moor also serves as a councillor in her hometown of Ghent (Belgium).
