SMART GARMENTS: WEARER AND PERCEPTION

Project

In this research project the fundamentally different character of smart garments, as distinguished from common clothing, is critically analysed, actually tested and provided with apt conceptual tools for understanding.

Starting in February 2018 Fashion Research and Technology researcher, Rebecca Louise Breuer will use the grant she has received from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NOW – SIA) to research how wearers perceive of smart garments. More specifically she will work at the presentation of a philosophical concepts apt to address the paradigm shift in what may be called ‘Intimate Technology’. Independent designer and researcher, Paulien Routs joins Rebecca in this process. And the garments, technology and case studies are provided by Dutch wearable tech designer Marina Toeters and tech company Elitac. First results of this research project can be expected towards the end of 2018.
