Margo van Hartingsveldt completed her training as an occupational therapist in 1983, studying at the forerunner of the AUAS's Occupational Therapy programme in Weesp. From there, she went on to work for more than 25 years as a paediatric occupational therapist in rehabilitation care, academic hospitals, as a teacher and in private practice. From 2003 to 2011 she was the head of occupational therapy and a paediatric therapist and researcher at Radboudumc's Rehabilitation Department in Nijmegen.
In 2003 she obtained her MSc (cum laude) in Allied Healthcare from HAN University of Applied Sciences, the Dutch Institute for Allied Healthcare (Nederlands Paramedisch Instituut; NPi) and the UMC St Radboud in Nijmegen. In 2014 she obtained her doctorate from Radboud University Nijmegen. Her thesis, entitled Ready for handwriting, describes the development of the Writing Readiness Inventory Tool In Context (WRITIC), designed for older toddlers.
In April 2011 Margo was appointed programme manager at the School of Occupational Therapy (BSc in Occupational Therapy and European MSc in Occupational Therapy), and in March 2016 also professor of Occupational Therapy within the Participation and Environment professorship at the AUAS's Faculty of Health.
Margo is lead author of the Dutch professional profile for occupational therapists (2010) and of the profile for specialist paediatric therapists (2015). As one of the editors of the book Grondslagen van de ergotherapie ('Principles of occupational therapy', 2017), she has contributed to the 3rd, 4th and 5th editions of what has become a key seminal reference work for occupational therapy training programmes and practising occupational therapists in the Netherlands and Flanders. She is the author of three books on the observation of fine motor skills and writing readiness, and also the co-editor, with Liesbeth de Vries, of the WRITIC manual published in 2016.
Margo regularly publishes in Dutch and international journals. Since 2005 she has organised Dutch and international study days on paediatric occupational therapy and the use of various measurement tools, and she routinely lectures at conferences in the Netherlands and abroad.
In addition, Margo is active in developments at the professional association for Dutch occupational therapists (Ergotherapie Nederland) and is a member of the Research and Science (Onderzoek en Wetenschap) advisory group.
