Frank Kresin reappointed as Dean of the Faculty FDMCI
20 Dec 2022 13:00 | CommunicationFrank Kresin, Dean of the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries (FDMCI), has been reappointed as dean of the faculty for a four-year term effective 1 February 2023.
FDMCI operates across the whole spectrum of the creative industries. In the areas of communication, media and storytelling, design, IT, and fashion, students are trained to become independent professionals and engaged citizens for their roles in the labour market and society. High-level applied research is also being done in relevant fields. Under Kresin's leadership, FDMCI recently created four Associate Degrees and a Master's programme, and prepared various educational innovations. Teaching and research have become more closely linked and university‑wide ambitions in the areas of sustainability, diversity and inclusion, responsible digitisation and the introduction of personalised learning paths have been achieved. Several new professors have been appointed in recent years, the mission of the Centre of Expertise Creative Innovation has been redefined, and the Centre of Expertise Applied Artificial Intelligence has been established. Kresin was also instrumental in recruiting Marleen Stikker to be a Professor of Practice at our organisation.
Kresin wants in the coming period to create a calm environment and sufficient opportunities for staff and students to become familiar and confident working with the recent innovations. The educational portfolio will be updated in consultation with industry partners and attention will be paid to quality assurance and culture, as well as the development of firm partnerships in the field of education and research. This includes intensifying cooperation with other faculties and further strengthening research by attracting a few new professors.
The FDMCI Faculty Representative Advisory Council has approved the reappointment of Kresin, whom they describe as committed, enthusiastic and approachable. Jopie Nooren, Chair of the Executive Board, says: "Frank is a knowledgeable and committed dean who is not only focused on his own faculty but who also has a central role in responding to the opportunities available to our university of applied sciences for working together with companies and other knowledge institutions, for example in the field of artificial intelligence. I am confident that Frank will continue to work in the coming years to create a forward-looking, flexible faculty with state-of-the-art teaching and research."
Frank Kresin: "I am pleased that the Executive Board has decided to appoint me as dean for a second term. I feel very much at home here and am proud to lead a faculty that is especially relevant now considering the major transitions we are facing. I am grateful to all my colleagues and students for giving their best every day and look forward to working with them in the time ahead."
