Viet Nguyen works as a lecturer/researcher at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Bringing extensive industry experiences through positions in supply chains at Heineken, Friesland Campina, and Rabobank, Viet lectures on logistics and supply chain management courses at Amsterdam School of International Business. Viet has a BSc in Computer Science from Tokyo Institute of Technology, a MSc in Engineering & Policy Analysis from Delft University of Technology, and a PhD in Operations Research & Logistics from Wageningen University. With such background, Viet has conducted research in both quantitative and qualitative modelling of social-technical systems. He is specialized in modelling logistics and supply chain networks with a systemic view and systems thinking. As a result, topics such as multi-level collaborations, information sharing in multi-actor contexts, and harnessing the business value of data and information in supply chain networks had been extensively addressed in his PhD research. Viet’s recent work focuses on supply chains’ sustainability problems that require consideration not only to economic and environmental sustainability issues but also to social sustainability issues as well. Combining systemic view and the three dimensions of sustainability, Viet’s research at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences will look at challenges in sustainable and circular procurement in industries such as textile and healthcare. Viet is also interested in research topics in cold chain logistics, agrifood supply chains, and global freight logistics. Recently Viet has contributed to an awarded NWA-ORC grant by a Dutch consortium of research and applied universities on the topic of on-demand digital platforms for freight transport systems.
