The Urban Vitality Open science research manual

This information concerns the chapters of the Urban Vitality Open science research manual. The manual is inspired by the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, the anti-research waste movement and principles of open science. It is primarily intended for researchers of Urban Vitality and is focussed at the scientific quality process.

Working along these lines increases quality, transparency and reproducibility of research (output) and decreases research waste. The chapters largely follow our UV Open science checklist and are distributed over four stages of the research cycle: preparation of the research proposal, planning, executing and finishing the research project. We also listed some AUAS- and open science tools that may be helpful. The manual is focussed at the scientific quality process; of course other forms of integrity and quality, such as financial (project) control and other project management activities, are important as well, but fall outside the scope of this manual.

AUAS research support page

The UV Open science research manual complements the AUAS research support page (intranet) where you will find references to most AUAS-services to support researchers.

Development of the UV research manual

We have worked on the manual in a Scrum-like manner in close collaboration with PhD-students, (junior-) researchers and the AUAS Ethical Committee. Most procedures described have not yet been formally approved by the respective faculties, although some stem from AUAS-policy. We may not cover the wide range and applications of practice-oriented research, but we think that most chapters hold true for all research disciplines. The manual is not completed yet and will be continuously updated. Your feedback is very much appreciated.
