Secure your smartphone and tablet

  • Preferably use a passcode, if possible of 6 characters; an unlock pattern is less secure because it can be easily intercepted.
  • Make sure that the screen saver is switched on when you are not using your phone or tablet, preferably immediately but at least within 5 minutes.
  • Use the Find service (using Android Device Manager or Find iPhone) so that if your device is lost, it can be tracked down, you can leave a message and the data can be remotely erased.
  • Do not install unreliable apps or perform jailbreaks (this prevents the manufacturer from guaranteeing the security of the device).
  • Turn off Bluetooth when not in use.
  • Do not store confidential data on your phone or tablet.
  • Report the loss or theft of a phone or tablet containing company information to the Service desk ICT Services immediately. Ensure that the password for your account (and any other accounts) is changed or blocked immediately.
