Working in labs
A lab blurs the line between education and research. Final year students, interns, teachers, researchers and lecturers undertake applied, or designed, research – together with external partners.
The longest-running lab at the Knowledge Centre, MediaLAB Amsterdam, has students developing media applications related to current social issues. The Digital Life Lab works with (sensor) technology that can enhance health and healthcare. New labs include the Fashion Technology Lab (specialising in 3D technology for fashion design and production), the Citizen Data Lab (analysing data related to urban issues) and the Publishing Lab (exploring new digital practices in publishing and the library sciences).
