Renée Heller, who received her PhD from Utrecht University concerning research into hydrogen storage in thin metal layers, has been Professor of Energy and Innovation at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) since 2020. She began her AUAS career as a Senior Professor in Sustainable Energy Systems within the Engineering programme and the Urban Technology Research programme. She joined the AUAS in 2014 as Project Manager Bachelor Engineering.

Heller studied Physics and General Literature at the University of Utrecht (1988-1995). After her PhD, she worked for several years at Ecofys, an international consultancy firm specialising in energy saving and renewable energy. From 2011, she was their Unit Manager of the Built Environment and later Integral Energy Systems units.

Renée is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Milieu Centraal and active in the LEVE and Urban Energy Professor platforms.
