Pascal Wiggers is Professor for the Responsible IT research group at the Faculty of Digital Media & Creative Industry (FDMCI). The Responsible IT research group researches how digital technology, particularly AI, can be shaped and utilized according to societal values such as autonomy, inclusivity, diversity, and human dignity. Additionally, the research group designs and develops algorithms, prototypes, and development methodologies to comprehend the individual, ethical, and social impact of technology. This is accomplished through addressing concrete practical issues in close collaboration with citizens, programmers, designers, activists, professionals, civil servants, students, and teachers.

Wiggers previously held a position as Associate Lecturer Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Faculty of Digital Media & Creative Industry (FDMCI) in which he focused on developing AI from public values, with an eye for the individual, social and ethical consequences of AI. This position was part of the Responsible IT research group and the first time the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences had appointed an Associate Lecturer.

Wiggers received his PhD from TU Delft in 2008 with the thesis "Modeling Context in Automatic Speech Recognition" and worked at the same university as an associate professor, where, together with his PhD students, he researched machine learning, automatic recognition of speech, language and emotion and methods to reflect on values during the design and development process of digital technology.

Wiggers was quartermaster of the HvA-wide Centre of Expertise Applied Artificial Intelligence and co-initiator of the Professional Master Applied Artificial Intelligence. He is one of the initiators of the AI, Media & Democracy ELSA Lab, a member of the strategy team of Amsterdam AI, and a member of the Graduate Committee of the Professional Doctorate in Engineering & Digitalization.
