AMFI - Amsterdam Fashion Institute (English Programme)

By the time you complete your studies at Amsterdam Fashion Institute, you will be a high-end professional who is able to work in a variety of settings in the Dutch or international fashion industry. The three dimensions of our programme cover every possible Bachelor’s level fashion industry profession. You can also choose to further your education and pursue a master's degree.

Career opportunities

Students and graduates will benefit from AMFI’s close ties to the national and international fashion industries and business sectors. With your branding, design and business and development skills you will be able to work in a variety of settings in the fashion world.

Examples of professions in the various dimensions:

As a creative talent, you will learn all there is to know about form, shape, colour, material and technique, as well as the social, economic and cultural aspects of fashion. You will develop a personal vision on fashion, which you will learn to translate into concrete fashion and styling concepts. Graduates can expect to work for companies such as G-Star, Ann Demeulemeester, H&M, Lanvin, Adidas, ELLE or Bijenkorf.

As you develop a more a business-minded attitude, you will gain a new, in-depth perspective on the fashion industry. As a graduate, your newly acquired management skills and insights will enable you to optimise the purchase, manufacturing and sale of clothing. You will also be equipped to address sustainability issues on behalf of clients such as Tommy Hilfiger, Hunkemöller, Diesel, Hugo Boss, Zeeman, Nike, C&A or Suitsupply.

Students with strong visual and writing skills will learn how each fashion brand is based on a concept. This concept is reflected in the brand’s designs, product ranges and communication and marketing strategies. You will learn to develop and maintain concepts, apply design principles and establish a brand strategy. Graduates can expect to work for fashion brands (Acne Studios, Adidas, Diesel), magazines (Glamcult, LINDA.), trend-watching, design and advertising agencies (Stijlinstituut, Concrete Associates, DDB) or companies (HEMA, Zalando, Scotch & Soda).

A Bachelor’s degree provides a good basis for further studies. AMFI graduates seeking further education may opt for a Master’s programme at a university in the Netherlands or abroad.

Master’s degree at AUAS

If you want to continue your academic career at the AUAS and specialize further in the field of digital design. Then the international Master's programme in Digital Design might be a good option. This one-year, full time Master of Science degree, focuses on talented designers from all over the world who want to further develop into highly trained specialists. Of course you can also follow a master at another college or university in the Netherlands or abroad.

The programme overviews published by the various universities and universities of applied sciences specify whether – and, if so, under which conditions – your AUAS Bachelor’s degree provides access to their Master’s programme, and provide an overview of any additional requirements. Transfers from undergraduate programmes to postgraduate programmes almost always involve a follow-on and pre-Master’s programme.

Title and diploma

After successfully completing the four-year Fashion and Textile Technologies programme at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.).
