Dr. Janette Bessembinder works as a professor of Climate Literacy at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. She also works at the The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), tailoring climate data and information for users from a wide range of sectors.

About Jannette Bessembinder

Janette Bessembinder has been working as a lecturer in Climate Literacy for the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) since May 2022. Since 2005, she has been working at the KNMI on tailoring climate data and information for users from a wide range of sectors, particularly in relation to the KNMI climate scenarios. In addition to processing climate data, communication about climate change is also one of her expertises.

The lectureship focuses on two lines of research:

  1. The customisation and use of climate data and information for urban planning.
  2. Effective communication about climate change by professionals to policymakers and the wider public.

Ancillary positions

  • Works one day a week at the KNMI as a senior climate services advisor
